“What can I do, my dear, to catch your ear. I love you madly, madly Madam Librarian…Marian.” Professor Harold Hill, The Music Man
If only Professor Harold Hill had downloaded the “Boopsie for Libraries” App he could have communicated with Marian the Librarian without even opening his mouth.
Fortunately, for patrons of the Santa Clarita Public Library, the new, free smart phone application is available for modern-day residents to communicate with librarians and access library services anytime, anywhere via Android, BlackBerry and iPhone.
The mobile library application gives patrons real-time access to the library’s book collections, allowing them to check book availability and place holds or renewals on their favorite titles.
App users can easily locate over 1.1 million books, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs by simply entering the first two letters of each word of the title into the search engine.
App users can also scan or enter the ISBN codes of any book into the BookLook® Mobile tool to see if they are available at the Valencia, Newhall or Canyon Country Libraries.
Using the Integrated Social Networking Tool, app users can keep up-to-date on the latest news and events, as well as interact with library staff on Facebook or Twitter.

The app also serves as a direct connection to reference librarians by email or phone call, and includes a Library Locator feature, which uses GPS technology to provide library addresses, hours of operation, and contact information.
Though not as romantic as a song, Professor Hill could have just texted. Ah, progress.
Android users can download the mobile library app at www.sclarita.boopsie.com, or by searching the words “Santa Clarita Public Library” in the Google Play application store.
iPhone users can find and download the app by installing “Boopsie for Libraries” from the iTunes application store, and selecting “Santa Clarita Public Library.”
