A drunk driver crashed his vehicle into a Canyon Country resident’s mailbox and wall early this morning and then decided to take a snooze in the back seat. According to the California Highway patrol 52-year-old Mark Herran of Canyon Country was taken into custody on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence and for having blood alcohol content greater than .08.
At around 5 a.m. a homeowner near the intersection of Forrest Street and Fitch Avenue came out to find a car had crashed into his wall and mailbox. He also discovered Herran asleep in the back seat of the vehicle. The homeowner woke Herran and then took a picture of the damage.
When the homeowner went back into the house to contact authorities, Herran fled from the scene in his car. The homeowner then got into his own vehicle and followed the driver until Herran made a stop near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road. CHP officers approached Herran and conducted a field sobriety test. Herran was taken into custody at 7:45 a.m.
The damage to the wall and mailbox was considered to be minor.
