Bouquet Junction Improvement Set To Begin

Lane Closures to Begin in June as Roadway Widening Gets Underway

Beginning in  June, motorists traveling through Bouquet Junction may experience some delays as work commences on vitally needed traffic improvements to help improve traffic flow through the City of Santa Clarita.

Over the next week motorists will notice some preliminary work being done to prepare for the Bouquet junction improvement project. Utilities such as street lights, intersection signals, fire hydrants and stormwater catch basins will be moved in preparation for the improvement project.  Some periodic lane closures are expected to allow this work to be completed safely.

The Bouquet junction improvement project involves the widening of Bouquet Canyon Road from Valencia Boulevard to Newhall Ranch Road; and the widening at the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard/Soledad Canyon Road (Bouquet Junction).   Work at Bouquet Junction will include widening, moving traffic signals, and adding center medians to accommodate three left-turn lanes from both westbound traffic on Soledad Canyon Road and eastbound traffic on Valencia Boulevard onto Bouquet Canyon Road.

Additionally, a new signal will be installed along Bouquet Canyon Road at the southern exit of the Lowe’s parking lot. The new signal will allow cars leaving Lowe’s to make a left-hand turn onto northbound Bouquet Canyon Road and will also ease traffic coming into the shopping center.

The project is projected to be complete in October 2007.

Phase One will begin the first week of June with roadway widening work on the right side of eastbound Valencia Boulevard before Bouquet junction through to eastbound Soledad Canyon Road, just past the junction.  As a result of the widening work, through traffic will be limited to two lanes along eastbound Valencia/Soledad Canyon.

[view:node_ad=5]Also as part of Phase One, work will begin on widening Bouquet Canyon Road from Newhall Ranch Road in the north to just past the Bouquet Junction on the south side.  The northbound side of Bouquet Canyon will be reduced to two lanes of through traffic while the roadway is widened.  The first phase of the improvement project will be complete in early July.

At the completion of the project, the number of through lanes of traffic along this section of Bouquet will be increased to four in each direction.

Once eastbound Valencia/Soledad Canyon have been widened, work will begin in early July through the same section of roadway to add a new center, landscaped median and three left-turn lanes from both the westbound approach on Soledad Canyon Road and eastbound approach on Valencia Boulevard onto Bouquet Canyon Road.  Currently, there are only two turn lanes.  Improvements will allow for better traffic flow.

Work to reconfigure and landscape the center media along Bouquet Canyon Road between Newhall Ranch Road and Valencia/Soledad will also begin in early July.  During this construction activity, southbound Bouquet Canyon Road will be reduced temporarily to two lanes for approximately one week.  Northbound Bouquet Canyon Road will be reduced to two lanes for approximately six weeks.

Detour signs have been posted to alert residents to potential delays. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the recently opened Cross Valley Connector from I-5 to Bouquet Canyon Road to avoid potential delays and to utilize the new roadway as a means of traveling across the Santa Clarita Valley.

“The Bouquet junction improvement Project is vital to improving the flow of traffic through Valencia and we are doing everything we can to limit disruptions caused by road construction,” commented Marlee Lauffer, spokesperson for Newhall Land.

Because this stretch of roadway is heavily traveled, care is being taken to limit disruption to traffic flow. Street construction will occur around the clock, with the majority of work to be done in the evenings between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. when fewer cars are on the road.

This project is being constructed by Newhall Land, as part of the company’s commitment to meeting infrastructure needs of residents and businesses in Valencia.
