Community pours out support.
On February 17th, the SCV-Newhall Optimist Club witnessed the support that Santa Clarita provides for a good cause. Heads Up "Therapy on Horseback was the focus for the first ever SCV-Newhall Optimist Bowl-a-Thon in Santa Clarita.
As the final days approached local business owners started to sponsor teams and the people of Santa Clarita rallied behind the Optimist in their quest to support the children of Santa Clarita. At the event the Santa Clarita Lanes started to fill up with yellow shirts. It was a sea of yellow according to Michael and most of the bowlers were children of all ages. Michael says that next year we will plan for more children because we ran out of small t-shirts before the event even started. Children were wearing medium and some large yellow shirts that hung just inches from the floor in the alley.
The goal was to bring in $10,000.00 on their first event according to Michael G. Holt, chairman of this years fundraiser.
When the final numbers were tallied the event did not bring in the $10,000.00 that they were hoping for. Instead the end result was close to $15,000.00 raised for Heads Up.
Michael says that the reason for this years success is because small business owners showed their support for horseback therapy and the children of Santa Clarita.
People had a great time and everyone pulled together before and during the event. Star a miniature horse from Heads Up was present to welcome bowlers before the event.
The staff of Heads Up along with the children were there to bowl and thank the participants.
One of the parents of the children stated that they don't remember an event that focused so much on having a good time for a good cause. It was a nice break from the other events to raise money.
