Guests will spend “A Night on the Diamond”.
Although this is the Boys and Girls’ Club 37th Annual Auction fundraiser, you can bet that this year’s event will be different from the rest. “After all these years of fundraisers, this is the first year that we have a sports themed night. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Boys and Girls’ Club Executive Director Ivan Price.
The auction’s theme was unveiled last night at the kick-off event hosted by Boys and Girls Club Chief Executive Director Jim Ventress. The event featured appearances by LA Dodgers former first baseman and Baseball Hall-of-Famer Eddie Murray; former shortstop, coach, manager and all-star for the LA Dodgers, Bill Russell; and former minor league player and general manager for the LA Dodgers Kevin Malone. All three-baseball greats are also residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.
Price said that several local kids even got a chance to play some ball at the kick-off. “Eddie Murray was teaching the kids how to hold the bat, hit the ball, and bunt. And then we had Bill Russell out on second base, showing the kids how to run, slide and stuff like that. Kevin Malone, who has been involved in baseball for many years, was talking to the kids about the importance and value of sportsmanship and hard work. The kids had a blast.”
Also in attendance was “Kaboom”, the Lancaster JetHawks mascot who represented the support of their team. The JetHawks will be donating a skybox for 25 people to this years’ live auction.
Representatives from L.A. Racing were on hand with their LA Dodger Super Late model NASCAR to promote their live auction donation. For those who’ve always wanted to get behind the wheel of race car, keep your eye open for the “Adventure Six Pack” at the Auction, which will allow six people to take 20 thrilling laps each at the Irwindale Speedway.
Auction Co-chairs Chell and Greg Amsler of Salt Creek Grille are looking forward to the Saturday, June 14 Benefit Auction which will be held at the Mann BioMedical Park located at 25104 Rye Canyon Loop in the Valencia Industrial Center. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with 1,500 expected in attendance.
The evening will feature over 50 live auction items, 400 bid board items, and gourmet food. Patrons are encouraged to “dress the theme”.
