New City Arts Commission schedules first meeting.artpallette

The City of Santa Clarita’s newly-appointed Arts Commission will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 17 in City Hall’s Council Chambers. Members of the new Commission will be sworn in before covering a variety of local arts-related topics at the inaugural meeting.

The Santa Clarita City Council appointed the five members of the City’s first Arts Commission at the November 10 City Council meeting. The selected members of the newly-formed commission are John A. Dow, Sandra Fisher, Dr. Michael W. Millar, Eric Schmidt, and Paul B. Strickland.

“The City’s new Arts Commission is comprised of community members with extensive arts backgrounds,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “We look forward to the Commission’s first meeting on December 17 and are excited to see how this remarkable panel will continue to make art an integral part of Santa Clarita culture.”

After they are sworn in, Arts Commission members will review an Arts Leadership Plan and orientation, and will appoint a Chair and Vice Chair. The Commission will also hear a presentation from members of the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee, who will share suggestions for Public Art projects.

The City of Santa Clarita Arts Commission is made up of five members with an interest in arts issues within the City of Santa Clarita. The new Commission’s role is to advise the City Council, City Manager, and City staff on arts matters including public art and arts programs and events throughout the community.
