West Creek Elementary kick starts building in ceremony.

ImageSaugus Union School District celebrated a big step forward for their soon to be built new school, West Creek Elementary.

LA County Supervisor Michael Antonovich was on hand, along with several other dignitaries to officially kick off construction of the school, which is located off of Copper Hill, just near Decoro Ave.

It will be the 16th school in the Saugus School District, and will likely be ready by 2009.

The building is the result of a partnership between Saugus School District and Newhall Land that officials have hailed as “unique.”

"This partnership is about the best of two worlds coming together for the benefit of children," said Newhall Land's Executive Vice President Steve Zimmer.

The school sits on nearly 11 acres, and comes at a cost of $35 million.
