UPDATED 7:15 p.m. Monday
A 15-foot-wide sinkhole has developed at the site of an underground water main break on Soledad Canyon Road near Luther Drive.
All eastbound traffic lanes are now open with one westbound lane open.
The break was detected shortly after 2:30 p.m. and the entire street was closed between Luther Drive and Vilna Avenue, but the eastbound lanes opened by 3:30 p.m.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station advises that one westbound lane is open.
The sinkhole takes up two traffic lanes and was measured at 15 feet across. Lewison told KHTS that the broken pipe was an intake pipe to a pumping station, so no homes or businesses are without water.
Sheriff’s, fire, water company and city crews are on the scene.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area if they can and exercise extreme caution if they must travel through that portion of Soledad.
