“Today was a significant day,” said Evans’ widower, Jacob Evans, in a social media post on Friday. “I was there with Katie’s parents and a few close friends. I was very grateful that she plead no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter instead of dragging this out into a full trial.”

A no contest plea is treated as a guilty plea in the legal system, without the defendant admitting fault.

The 10 year sentence was part of a plea deal with prosecutors, who agreed to drop all other charges against Cina at sentencing: one felony count each of murder, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury.

Evans said that Friday’s courtroom was an emotional time for everyone and not just for members and supporters of his grieving family.

“The judge was extremely professional, but cried openly during the victim impact statements,” said Alexia and her family were very apologetic for everything and expressed their sincere regret in the kindest possible manner.

On Oct. 6, 2017, Cina – who had a blood alcohol content of .21, according to Sheriff’s officials – struck and killed Katie Evans, a Saugus mother of six who was driving back to Santa Clarita from UCLA, where she was visiting her newborn twin daughters.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene on Golden Valley Road, according to officials.

Toxicology reports indicate Cina had a blood alcohol content almost three times the legal limit of .08 at the time of the crash.

Evans left behind her husband and six children: four boys, ages 12, 11, 9 and 2, as well as the twin girls. Jacob Evans, partnered with KHTS in December to create drunk driving PSA videos and continues to spread awareness about the dangers and damage that can be caused by driving while under the influence.

“I ask that you please take a moment to honor Katie’s memory today by reminding those around not to drink and drive,” concluded Evans. “I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what my family has had to go through this past year.

  1. Katie Evans was an innocent victim of an irresponsible driver. 10 years is a very short sentence when you take into consideration that the Evans children will grow up without a Mother.

    • Way too short a sentence! So that is all a mother of six life is worth! This little drunk will be out at 32, but know our courts, 26. I have not one tiny shred of mercy for this drunken tart! None!

  2. Are you kidding me sentenced to 10 years she did three and she’s all over Facebook bragi this girl’s psychotic are you kidding me she’ll be back in she has no remorse for what she did it is truly sad

  3. Looks like her mother drank when she was in the womb.
