Sergio Toscano, a senior firefighter of the Little Tujunga Hotshots firefighting crew, was on assignment in San Diego over the weekend, when his home in the Los Angeles National Forest burned in the path of the Sand Fire, according to a GoFundMe page set up for him.

Donors have already raised over $16,000 in two days toward a goal that is set at $30,000 to help benefit Toscano.

Toscano, a former Marine, heard about his home after coming off the fireline for a wildfire in the Cleveland National Forest in Greater San Diego, and immediately went home to witness what he lost, according to the campaign’s creator, Brandon Opliger, who is a squad leader for the Little Tujunga Hotshots.

Toscano’s young son was with his mother at the time the flames spread through the Bear Divide Ranger Station and destroyed his home, according to the page.
