Angeles National Forest firefighters, along with several other agencies, are continuing to battle the Warm Fire in Castaic through the night, officials said Sunday.

The fire has reportedly spread to 500 acres as of 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to ANF officials. It is burning northwest and is zero percent contained.
“We’re still constructing hand-line and hose-lace that we’re continuing going direct. we have dozers clearing contingency lines,” Rudy Medrano, ANF Battalion Chief and Operations leader for the incident.
Los Angeles County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials have crews on scene as well. The LACoFD is assisting with structure defense while CHP and SCV Sheriff’s are assisting with traffic control.
“Right now, it’s small ground crews that are working to contain the fire,” said Deputy Tidbal, of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Crews working to contain the fire had to battle rough, steep terrain.
About 150 personnel are working to extinguish the fire, according to ANF officials.
The fire is located near Lake Hughes Road and the Warm Springs Rehab Center, where three structures burned, according to ANF officials. Two dorms at the rehab center were destroyed and one was damaged.
Aircrafts will be grounded until morning, according to LACoFD Spokeswoman Stephanie English. Six air tankers, five medium helicopters and two heavy heli-tankers were used to fight the fire Sunday.
The fire began around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the area near the Warm Springs Rehab Center, ANF officials said. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Both Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson investigators and investigators with ANF are on scene.
No injuries have been reported. No structures are threatened.
Southern California has “de-energized” power lines in the area.
The Warm Fire has the potential to grow to 2,000 acres, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Miguel Ornelas.
