However, officials noted monetary donations to Redcross.org are always appreciated, and donations can also be made to local fire stations.

“Residents in Santa Clarita have been unbelievably generous,” said Jon Myers, an American Red Cross representative at Hart High School.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted their appreciation for residents attempting to donate to the #SandFire command post, but noted they could not accept any donations at this time.

LACoFD officials instead encouraged residents to donate to local fire stations or to call the Red Cross.

More from the American Red Cross:

American Red Cross workers continue to keep evacuation shelters open in response to the Sand Fire that has devastated areas in the Santa Clarita vicinity. The two shelters that remain open are located at Hart High School, 24825 N. Newhall Ave., Santa Clarita, CA 91321 and at Lake View Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Dr., Sylmar, CA 91342.

The Golden Valley High School shelter has closed to accommodate the growing space need of the Incident Command Center that shared the same location. As the fire response expanded, the Command Center operation increased its on-site resources, such as response vehicles. Red Cross opted to relocate the shelter, as sharing locations was no longer a viable option. All shelter materials and staff have been reassigned to the Hart High School, where Red Cross volunteers are currently serving evacuated residents by providing food, drinks, a safe place to stay, information and health services.

We cannot do what we do without the generous support of the community. Financial donations are the quickest and best way to get help to the people who need it most and can be done by going to redcross.org and clicking the donate button or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
