The pilot killed in a plane crash Sunday afternoon in Sylmar has been identified by officials.

Scott Frasier Watson, 55, from Marina Del Rey was killed in the plane crash, said Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Coroner’s Office.
The crash was reported to the Los Angeles Fire Department shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon in a field adjacent to the I-5, between the I-405 and Roxford Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single-engine plane had crashed, said Patrick Butler, LAFD assistant chief.
First responders then had to use specialized equipment in attempts to save the pilot, according to officials.
However, by the time firefighters made access to the pilot, he had died.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the NTSB and the FAA.
