The unidentified individual, only described as Latino between the ages of 35 and 40, was hit by a train at approximately 8 a.m., near the corner of Ruether Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road, said Lt. Rob Hahnlein with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It appears the victim wasn’t paying attention (and) stepped in front of the train,” said Detective Steve Lankford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau, adding that it is unknown if the victim was on his phone.

The incident is possibly “an accident,” Lankford said.

No further information is known about the victim and his identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The incident is being handled by detectives with the Homicide Bureau.

According to a witness, southbound Ruether Avenue, near Home Depot, is blocked at Soledad Canyon due to the investigation of the collision.

Metrolink trains 203, 205, 208, 210 and 212 are affected by the incident.
