Around 8:10 a.m. Friday morning, Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station officials responded to Pico Canyon Elementary School for a report of a stabbing involving students.
“We did have an incident between two 12 year olds,” said Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station Lt. Ignacio Somoano. “There was a knife that was used, but I can’t give any specifics on what kind of knife it was.”
Somoano confirmed that deputies took one suspect into custody while another person was transported to a local hospital for “minor to superficial injuries.”
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials could not confirm as of 10:20 a.m. on Friday the status of the victim who was transported.
“We did clear the school, with the exception of the school resource officer,” Somoano said.
The school did not go on lockdown despite being evacuated, according to Newhall School District Superintendent Paul Codeiro.
“The Department’s investigation is in progress (and) our immediate goal is to support our students and their families,” said Codeiro in a statement released around 10:40 a.m. on Friday. “We are in direct communication with parents to assure them that we are following up in every possible way.”
Additionally, Pico Canyon Elementary School administrators have counselors and psychologists on site, according to Cordeiro.
“As always, our top priority is the safety of all students and adult on campus,” Cordeiro said.
Officials did not release any additional information about the incident.

Awesometown at its finest. Let’s see how long it takes locals to blame this on “outsiders.”

Wow! in Stevenson Ranch. Crimes everywhere. Hopefully, they were just playing around and it was an accident.
I blame the internet . just say no to kids wanting to use the net their frontal lobes just cant handle it yet.
Two 12 year olds…..in elementary school. Doesn’t add up.
It does add up. 6th graders turn 12 depending upon where their birthday falls before entering the
first year of junior high – 7th grade.
Some may not be aware, in the Santa Clarita Valley, we do not have “middle schools” – usually 6th through 8th grades. We have junior high schools – 7th and 8th grade.
Elementary schools are K through 6th grade – so a portion of the 6th graders will have already turned 12 before the 6th grade year ends – not because they were held back as the earlier poster was “adding up” – just bad math on the posters part.
