The Santa Clarita teenager who was struck and killed by a freight train in Canyon Country Friday has been identified by officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s office.

The victim of the train versus pedestrian collision was identified as 16-year-old Kimberly Jimenez-Soto of Santa Clarita, said Lt David Smith of the Coroner’s office.
Jimenez-Soto was struck by a train at 10:20 a.m. Friday near the corner of Ruether Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

Initial reports indicated Jimenez-Soto’s death might have been an accident, as opposed to a suicide attempt. The nature of her death is still under investigation.
Eastbound Soledad Canyon Road at Rainbow Glen was shut down Friday as officials worked around the collision scene.
The incident is being investigated by detectives with the Homicide Bureau. No additional information is being released by Sheriff’s Station officials at this time.

How tragic and sad. I heard the commotion but had no clue a young life was lost. I pray for her and her family, as well as the engineers and their families. No matter what happened, so horrific.
