Justin Anthony McKinnon, 22, of Canyon Country, was killed after losing control of his motorcycle on Whites Canyon Road just north of Nadal Street, said Lt. R. Hays of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The McKinnon Family has set a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for funeral costs. As of Thursday night, $105 has been raised in one hour; their hope to raise $5,000.

“A witness said the motorcycle passed him at high rate of speed, estimated at 100 mph,” said Detective Thomas Brooks with the SCV Sheriff’s Station. “When the witness finally caught up to the scene, the  witness found the motorcycle but not the person and called us. After a search of the area, they found the cyclist off the roadway and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The man is described as a 22-year-old male Caucasian, according to a crash report.

The crash occurred around 2:48 a.m. Thursday on Whites Canyon Road near Nadal Street.

The motorcycle was traveling north on Whites Canyon Road just north of Nadal Street,” according to a report by Sgt. Richard Cohen of the SCV Sheriff’s Station Traffic Division. The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and crashed along the east curb line. The victim was possibly traveling with another motorcyclist and racing.”

Whites Canyon Road was closed for several hours, Brooks said.

This is the second fatal crash to occur in that area in the past week.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials are continuing to investigate the case.

  1. I woke up this morning to sound of this motorcycle going so fast, I literally thought to myself that it was going way too fast. I live right off of Whites and Nadal. Very sad to read that the person crashed and passed.

    • That IS sad! Condolences to the family/s. It’s also sad that people don’t seem to learn to change their own driving habits even after seeing these things happen close to them. That means we’re gonna have to see lots more people die simply because they refuse to slow down or be considerate to others, and that sucks!

      • This story makes me sick to my stomach for the family and it also makes me angry. As morbid as this may sound… I think all young people getting a drivers license/permit should not only have to hear about this but should be forced to go to the incident and witness for themselves the results Of reckless driving. In addition to drunk driving there’s also this. I really don’t want another young man/woman to die from this type of stupidity. It’s just not worth it. We need to show them _telling them does not work!!’

  2. What a tragedy but I am surprised that this type of thing hasn’t happened sooner on this stretch of Whites/Plum Canyon. In the evenings as I come home, I have been passed numerous times by young men on motorcycles racing, doing wheelies, and standing on their seats with one foot in their graves. As a parent, it scared me to death. Our bedroom faces Plum Canyon and every night we hear street racers. My sympathy to the young mans parents.

  3. Doctors have a name for motorcyclists, organ donors.

  4. Very sad to hear of this incident. I live off of Sand Cyn. I hear and see these guys racing every Saturday and Sunday morning. With the amount of accidents we have in this city where motorcyclist are involved. You think that these guys and gals would slow down….
I’m very sorry to the family who lost there Son.
    My deepest condolences.?

  5. I hear motorcycles racing down Bouquet Cyn. all the time. It scares me to hear them knowing that they can lose control and crash. That is how we got a stop light at Urbandale Ave by Rosedell Elementary. A motorcyclist crashed at the corner and died instantly. He could not be moved until the coroner came and it just so happened when the kids were coming to school. His body was not covered by a sheet so everyone walking saw this pool soul dead and mangled laying in the street. By the next week, the city put up a stop light. It’s a shame someone has to die to get a stop light in. But it hasn’t stopped the racers!
