Stone Fire In Agua Dulce Burns 1400 Acres With 30 Percent Containment

UPDATE: A brush fire, dubbed the Stone Fire, in Agua Dulce is 30 percent contained after scorching 1,352 acres. No structures have been damaged.

UPDATE: A brush fire, dubbed the Stone Fire, burned an estimated 1400 acres Monday in Agua Dulce, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials confirmed, but is now at 30 percent containment.

UPDATE 9:44 p.m. — Officials have confirmed that as of 8:00 p.m. the fire was at 30 percent containment and that evacuations had been lifted.

UPDATE: 4:50 p.m. — The size of the Stone Fire has grown to 1000 acres, but no structures have been destroyed and no injuries have been reported, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector David Michel.

LASD officials have confirmed that road closures at Wallace Canyon Rd/Sierra Hwy, Agua Dulce Canyon Rd/Sierra Hwy and Anthony Rd/Sierra Hwy are still in effect as of 4:45 p.m. on Monday.

 

UPDATE 4:26 p.m. — Congressional candidate Jess Phoenix has announced that like her Democratic competitor, Katie Hill, she too must leave her campaign events so that she can prepare her home for evacuation.

“Running from sign waving in Santa Clarita to our house to prep for evacuating from the #StoneFire. It never ends,” read a post on Phoenix’s personal Facebook account at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday.

California’s Primary Election is slated for tomorrow, and both Phoenix and Hill run against Republican incumbent Steve Knight and fellow Democrat Bryan Caforio for a chance at one of the two spots on the ballot in November.

As of 4:26 p.m., the most recent update approximated the Stone Fire to be 900-1000 acres in size and an evacuation center has been established for large animals at the Antelope Valley Fair Ground. Smaller animals, such as dogs, cats and other household pets, can be taken to the Castaic Animal Care Center and Palmdale Animal Center.

An evacuation center for residents has been set up at Marie Kerr Park in Palmdale.

UPDATE 3:31 p.m. — Shelters have opened up for horses and other large animals, according to county officials.

“We have opened up our shelters at the Antelope Valley Fair Grounds for horses and other large animals,” said Don Belton, public informations officer for the County of Los Angeles Animal Care and Control. “For cats, dogs and other smaller animals, we have opened our Castaic Care Center and our Palmdale Center.”

Additionally, Southern California Edison technicians are working with fire officials to monitor the fire and prevent damage to electrical infrastructure in the area.

“There are currently 14 customers that are without power,” said Susan Cox, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison. “The line was de-energized due to the Stone Fire. It was de-energized out of an abundance of caution.”

UPDATE 3:23 p.m. — LACoFD PIO’s official Twitter account has announced that the Stone Fire has an estimated size of 900-1000 acres with four Air Tankers assisting.

There has been no report of injuries but structures continue to be threatened.

UPDATE 3:09 p.m. — LACoFD officials are now estimating that the Stone Fire is at approximately 300-500 acres in size and has resulted in road closures at Wallace Canyon Rd/Sierra Hwy, Agua Dulce Canyon Rd/Sierra Hwy and Anthony Rd/Sierra Hwy.

Evacuations also continue for a number of residents and animal owners.

UPDATE 2:25 p.m. — A number of agencies have announced that they are working together to assist LACoFD in fighting the Stone Fire.

According to their official Twitter account, Angeles National Forest officials are assisting LACoFD battling the Stone Fire with “10 engines, one handcrew, one water tender, one dozer, three patrols and seven chief officers.”

Additionally, LASD is also assisting with evacuations and road closures.

UPDATE 2:10 p.m. — According to LACoFD officials, an estimated “200-500 acres” have been burned at this time by the Stone Fire.

240 LACoFD personnel remain on scene and as of 2:10 p.m. there has been no update on containment.

UPDATE 2:04 p.m. — CHP officials said a movie set may have caused the fire. A separate fire near Edwards Air Force Base, which was likely caused by a plane crash, is unrelated, said CHP Officer Josh Greengard.

LACoFD are also asking for two additional air tankers.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m. — LACoFD officials are advising residents of evacuations on Anthony Road and Sierra Hwy. Additionally a hard closure of Anthony Rd. has been announced by officials.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m. — The Stone Fire has resulted in a number of animal owners in the area to either voluntarily evacuate or assist others in their evacuations.

“We’ve not been ordered to evacuate, but we are going out to support the evacuation of other peoples’ large animals,” said Jennifer Wampler, Director of Operations at Gentle Barn.

UPDATE 1:23 p.m. — “The fire is at 200 acres at this point,” said Vanessa Lozano, LACoFD spokesperson. “At this time, it is still unclear how the fire started.”

Sierra Highway and Anthony Rd. have also been shutdown in both directions due to the Stone Fire, according to Lt. Sanchez, Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

UPDATE 1:08 p.m. — LACoFD officials have confirmed that structures are being threatened by the Stone Fire and that hundreds of personnel have been called on scene.

“There are structures threatened but it is unknown how many,” said Vanessa Lozano, LACoFD spokesperson. “It is unknown at this point if there are evacuations.”

Within 25 minutes, the blaze, which officials are calling the Stone Fire, grew from two acres to 20 near the 35000 block of Anthony Rd. in Agua Dulce.

“We have called in more fixed wing aircrafts to assist on top of the two LACoFD helicopters that have been already dispatched,” said an LACoFD spokesperson.

According to officials, the fire is spreading in light brush, spurred on by 5 mph winds blowing from the west.

The initial call came in at 12:26 p.m. Monday.
