Cesar Ranuschio, owner of BodyShop661 in Santa Clarita, was shot in the chest while attending the concert, according to family members.
Initially believed to be only a minor injury, Ranuschio, upon being more closely inspected by medical professionals, was discovered to have multiple pieces of shrapnel in his chest and a bullet lodged in the upper part of his liver.
“Initially they thought it was going to be a minor shrapnel injury, but it ended up being more severe. They had to open up his chest and remove the shrapnel but the bullet will remain in liver,” said David Lyznick, Ranuschio’s fiance’s father. “However, it was a successful surgery and he’s doing well.”
Dominica Zeolla, a real estate agent from Santa Clarita, was also reportedly struck by gunfire during the Las Vegas shooting, and was said to be recovering in the ICU following surgery Monday morning.
As of 2:21 p.m. on Monday, Zeolla was reportedly stable and in recovery.
“We have spoken to Dominica’s immediate family and she is stable in the ICU and will be on the road to recovery soon,” said Brittany Burman, close friend of Zeolla.
A third Santa Clarita victim, Susie LaPorte, was wounded by multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and upper torso, and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at a Las Vegas hospital, according to family members.
“They’re doing lots of scans and tests, draining fluid from one collapsed lung and they’re scanning her neck for other damage,” said LaPorte’s husband, Mitch LaPorte. “She’s responding well and they say she should heal okay if there are no complications.”
As of 1 p.m. on Monday, LaPorte has yet to enter surgery, but she is stabilized, responsive and no vital organs were struck.
Bruce “Bud” Wayne Horn, owner of Horns Backflow and Plumbing in Valencia, was identified as the fourth Santa Clarita resident injured, and was shot in the abdomen multiple times.
Horn was sedated at a Las Vegas hospital Monday afternoon after surviving two surgeries, and is with his wife, father and brother, according to close friend Matt Pumilio.
“He’s in and out of consciousness,” Pumilio said. “That’s all I really know. I’m just kind of waiting to find out if he’s going to be okay.”
A fifth Santa Clarita resident was reportedly wounded at the Las Vegas shooting on Sunday night.
Travis Phippen, the son of Santa Clarita resident John Phippen who was shot and killed during the concert massacre, was also struck by a bullet.
Travis Phippen was shot in the arm, and as a medic, worked to bandage at least 14 other wounded victims at the scene.
The sixth and seventh victims from Santa Clarita have been identified by friends and family.
Kim Hallden Peoples, an elementary school teacher at Meadows, was wounded by taking shrapnel to the leg, according to friends and family.
Jessi Presten, a loan officer at Santa Clarita Skyline Home Loans, was shot in the leg.
Beyond the reports of their initial injuries, no further information is available at this time.
Officer Andrew Dahring of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been identified as the eighth Santa Clarita resident to be injured due to gunfire on Sunday night.
A former member of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station, Dahring was off-duty when he was shot during the hail of gunfire coming from the 32nd story of the Mandalay Bay.
Officer Dahring, a Santa Clarita resident, was wounded in the shoulder.
It is unclear at this time concerning the exact severity of Dahring’s gunshot wound, but friends and family have confirmed that he is stable and in recovery.
The ninth victim from Santa Clarita has been identified as Stacey Brown Fusano, a single mother of two from Saugus.
Stacey Brown Fusano was shot in the abdomen and treated and is expected to make a full recovery. Fusano is being discharged from the hospital and is on her way back to the Santa Clarita Valley.
