The Brittany Foundation is seeking donations to purchase equipment that could save the lives of the dogs that call the foundation home.

The foundation, home to nearly 70 homeless dogs, was threatened by the Crown Incident which burned almost 14,000 acres in Acton and Leona Valley/Palmdale.  On July 29, the fire came within 50 yards of the sanctuary and the foundation was evacuated.

But evacuation was not an easy process.  The fire department closed Anthony Road and many evacuators were unable to reach the foundation.  Eventually, some transporters were allowed through and other volunteers walked 2 miles to get to the property.

Nancy Anderson, Founder of the Brittany Foundation, wants to be more prepared if a similar situation happens again.  The Brittany Foundation is trying to raise $20,000 to buy a 24-foot trailer, one-ton truck, and dog crates so that all of the animals could be evacuated in one trip.

“This trailer will help us if we’re put in a dangerous situation of not being able to get the dogs off the property.  The crates would already be in there and we would just need to load the dogs up and drive off.” Anderson explained how the air-conditioned trailer would help the foundation.
