Brush Fire In Sloan, Paradise Canyons

Update: Saturday, 2:26 p.m.

Voluntary evacuations have been lifted.

A brush fire that burned 55 acres in the Sloan Canyon area of Castaic is now 100 percent contained. 

A second fire on the northbound I-5 at Templin Highway was held to six acres and is now 100 precent contained.

 

Sloan Canyon Fire: Active flames are out, and the fire is now 100 percent contained.

Fire crews will remain on scene for the next couple of hours.

The second alarm fire burned in a northerly direction in medium brush in mostly inaccessible territory.

Large animals were removed from the ranch properties in the animal with the assistance of LA County Animal Control.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Voluntary evacuations were at one time issued for residents in the following areas:

  • Oak Valley Rd. and Victoria Rd.
  • south of Sloan Canyon Rd. and west of Parker Rd., including Applewood Ln.

All evacuations have since been lifted.

 

TRAFFIC: Sloan Canyon Road is restricted from Quail Valley to Lake Hughes.Other periodic road closures on the Old Road and Sloan Canyon may be encountered.

One firefighter did suffer a heat-related injury and was taken by ambulance from the scene.

 

Paradise Fire: Started by an Amtrak bus on its way from Los Angeles to Bakersfield. According to Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Fredric Stowers, the bus driver pulled the bus over after smelling smoke. Upon inspection, the driver saw flames underneath the bus, and all nine passengers and their luggage were evacuated.

 

The fire soon engulfed the bus and spread to the hillside, where it burned six acres before being knocked down at about 6:00 p.m. No injuries were reported to the bus driver or passengers.

 

The fire did cause some minor lane restrictions on the northbound I-5 just after Templin Highway, however those have been lifted.
