A few neighborhoods in Santa Clarita are experiencing an increase in break-ins, especially during the day.
Dubbed “door-kick” burglaries, the most common instances involve a suspect knocking at a home’s front door, and if no one answers they make entry to the house. Sometimes they enter the home by force, other times through an unlocked door or open window. Read more about door-kick burglaries by clicking here.
Hasley Hills, a Castaic neighborhood, and Fair Oaks Ranch in Canyon Country have been receiving the brunt of the occurrences, as referenced by the chart below.
Note: The chart below was provided by the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station and contains some of their language, which can be difficult to understand. For example, “entry by force” does not mean that a suspect forced a person to let them in. It simply means the house was entered by kicking in a door or breaking a window. None of these statistics involve any violent crime.
Additionally, the Sheriff’s department says that Santa Clarita is not the only area experiencing an increase in residential burglaries. San Gabriel Valley has reported similar problems, and like Santa Clarita, special policing operations are in place in the neighborhoods.
