Burrtec Dumps Facility Plan

Canyon Country recycling center taken off the table.

Plans for a materials recycling facility sited near Sierra Highway and Placerita Canyon Road have been scrapped by trash hauler Burrtec, according to the city of Santa Clarita.

City spokeswoman Gail Ortiz said they were notified of the decision in an e-mail forwarded from Alan Ferdman, chairman of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee. Ferdman’s committee rallied homeowners and residents when they heard of the planned facility in February, circulating flyers claiming that a dump was planned for the site and showing up in large groups at city meetings to demand the dump’s demise.

“We’re pleased that Burrtec heard the community’s concerns and we’d like to see them work with residents before they pursue plans for siting another facility,” Ortiz said.

Repeated calls by KHTS attempting to reach Burrtec officials for comment were not returned.
