The management at the Valencia location called local deputies Tuesday evening, worried that the employees were becoming unruly and might damage or steal something.

Deputies responded as a precaution at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday but determined that no crime was being committed and left the scene by 6:10 p.m.

They just stood outside the restaurant as a presence, said Deputy Josh Dubin.

The Valencia Elephant Bar employed 66 people, who were only given four days notice of the closure, according to Nichole Goltz.

Goltz identified herself as a Valencia Elephant Bar waitress in a comment thread under the original story about the closure on the KHTS AM-1220 Facebook page.

“I have never seen so many tears and distress,” she said in her comment. “I held back tears (June 8) during my shift. I know a lot of my coworkers who are single parents as myself and now don’t know what to do next.”

Goltz also expressed frustration that she and her coworkers had been given less than a week’s notice.

“We have to give two weeks’ notice to quit a job, but we had a four-day notice to lose our jobs,” she wrote in the comment.

The employees are expected to gather again at the Elephant Bar from 2-4 p.m. on Friday to receive their final paychecks.

Since Monday, the Valencia location on the Elephant Bar website has been removed.

Calls to the location’s number, 661-799-8640 were met with a busy signal.

The nearest Elephant Bar restaurants are in Torrance and Downey.
