Changing health care laws means that residents who did not have health care coverage the entire year may be penalized, making it vital for residents to discuss their individual circumstances with a tax professional.
“I highly recommend people to come in and talk about if they had health care the whole year or not,” Khadiya said. “You have to calculate the months you did not have health care benefits. You will be penalized there… (However) if you did not have them and you were trying to get them, there is a way of getting away with that penalty.”
