The flooring professionals at Aquakor want the Santa Clarita community to know the benefits of laminate flooring and how it differs from hardwood.

In a recent radio interview, Aquakor’s owner, Krikor Akoubian, broke down the basics of laminate flooring and the installation process.
“(Laminate) looks like a hardwood floor,” Akoubian said. “We have different colors, and they’re very affordable and it’s functional.”
There are currently two main types of laminate on the flooring market: 8 mm and 12 mm. Akoubian recommends 8 mm laminate for low traffic areas and small families with only two to three people because of its lower density.

The 12 mm laminate is the most popular– chosen by about 80 percent of Akoubian’s customers –because it’s a thicker board designed to last longer in high traffic areas.
Laminate flooring typically lasts 20 to 30 years, and is far more scratch- and dent-resistant than hardwood flooring.
“It has (an) aluminum oxide finish,” Akoubian said, “so if you have kids or pets it will be wonderful.”
Hardwood floors can be dented simply by a person walking in high heels, but laminate flooring has a higher density, making it more durable.
In addition, laminate is more affordable than hardwood flooring, making it an ideal choice for those on a tight budget.
About 500 square feet of laminate flooring can be installed per day, while hardwood floors take almost twice as long.
“Hardwood floors you can do 250 to 350 square feet a day,” Akoubian said. “Laminate, because it’s a clicking system, you go faster.”
