Burger King franchisee Dave Wurts started working at Burger King in 1978 at the first Santa Clarita Valley location on “Hamburger Hill,” and then worked his way to general manager, and then became a franchisee when he took out a loan and purchased the store. About 10 years later, he opened a second location, on Bouquet Canyon Road.

Changing the restaurant was extremely difficult, he said, because his employees at both locations are like family. The employees were notified Monday.

“I’ve had some employees work with me since the store opened, that’s what’s making the process so difficult,” Wurts said. “Others have been with me 10-15 years. We’re going to try and relocate as many of our employees as possible.”

Wurts purchased the plot for his second Burger King location on Bouquet Canyon Road in September of 1995, began construction in December 1995, and it was opened by March 1996. (The third and only other Burger King in the Santa Clarita Valley is operated in the mall by a different franchisee.)

The location is expected to become a completely remodeled, state-of-the-art, drive-thru Starbucks location, and amenities include a conference/community room large enough to fit approximately 12-15 people.

The new Starbucks location is planning to be operational by December, Wurts said.

Wurts will be a landlord for the new location, and retain ownership of the Hamburger Hill location, he said. Starbucks’ corporate office has wanted to put a drive-thru location in the area for some time, Wurts noted.

There’s currently a Starbucks location 26441 Bouquet Canyon Road, which is not a drive-thru location.

Starbucks corporate office was not available for comment Tuesday morning, as to whether the current Starbucks location across the street would remain open.

  1. Why do we need another Starbucks? Don’t we have enough?

  2. Great. Just what we need.

  3. REALLY PEOPLE!!!!! How many more Starbucks do we need. This is insane!!! Prime location for something other than Starbucks…….ugh!

  4. The key detail of when will the Burger King will close it’s doors is missing.

  5. Are you kidding me! So dumb!

  6. So, three Starbuck’s at that intersection. (One in Vons) Is there no non-competition clause? Wow.

  7. Just what this town doesn’t need, such a waste. Ridiculous!!

  8. Just what we need….ANOTHER Starbucks. How original. Add another one by Trader Joe’s and there’ll be one on each corner. Ugh.

  9. At least the kids will have enough caffeine to get through the ball pool faster…

  10. Who needs Starbucks on the way home? Doesn’t make sense.

    • Sure it seems a little ridiculous adding a third Starbucks in that area BUT honestly I was SO HAPPY when I found out itmll be a Drive-Thru Starbucks!!:) Coming from my house it’s a hassel going to the one next to In n Out; one that I just have to make a U-Turn to get to is AWESOME!????Yay! Thank you so much for finally changing the gross Burger King… Also I do not like the one in Vons because I feel like they don’t always have that many pastries, especially the ones I want…
And btw I get Starbucks all the time before I go home!

  11. Noooooo!!!!! I love Burger King, now where will I go to get some tasty flame broiled burgers at rock bottom prices?

  12. This is stupid, there’s already 2 Starbucks within 50 feet of that intersection, now you’re telling me they’re shutting down the only actual Burger King for miles *the mall one doesn’t count, it’s missing like half the menu* to put a THIRD Starbucks in? What, the one in the Lowe’s shopping center and the one in Vons aren’t enough? This is beyond ridiculous.

  13. whew…finally a place to get Starbucks

  14. Killed by In N Out across the street. Burger King went downhill years ago. Another Starbucks. Just what the area needs ..lol

  15. Are you kidding me? Another Starbucks, they are on every corner. I go to Burger King but refuse to go to Starbucks. They are way too expensive and constantly raise their prices. They are way overpriced. McDonalds food has become tasteless too. Damn!

  16. You folks surely must realize it’s not going to be another Starbucks but simply the one across the street moving to a larger, better location. I know the author of the article states they didn’t know, but sometimes common sense and logic need to be applied.

  17. no starbucks! Bring in Sonics! and extend the property. This town is already Caffeinated.

  18. The Starbucks across the street has poor parking and is congested. I assume they want a more accessible location, plus a Drive Thru will bring in business.

  19. I applaud the owner of the land though… Bravo. Purchased in 1995. What a great investment on his part! Guessing he’s in the millionaire club. Congrats man, true classic American dream story!

Now we all are like really?, another starbucks, but you know we’ll all end up in that crazy drive-thru eventually. DAMN YOU STARBUCKS

  20. How about turning the Starbucks in the Lowe’s shopping center into El Pollo Loco?

  21. Employees are like family, he says. Tells them on Monday and by Thursday it’s closed.
    What a POS.
    Typical business owner.

I , for one, will no longer eat at his other place……

  22. Did not tell any of his employees till monday. And so far none of those “long time employees who are like ‘family'” have been offered any kind of position at his Lyons location. Even though that store obviously needs the help

    • How long does it take to find a minimum wage job?? No more than 3 days if you have a pulse. Should they get thirty days notice, retention bonuses and severance packages? Enjoy your $45 whopper.

  23. I would have liked something else other than a starbucks in that corner. How much footprint will the city allow of Starbucks. How about another type of business ? Well anyway, line for that drive though is going to be long..

  24. Just what we do not need, another outlet for over-priced burnt coffee. The burgers at BK were pretty good, much better than J Box and way ahead of McDonalds. Oh well.

  25. NO! Starbucks already litter our valley. It was nice to have some fast food at this end. Pleeeese tell me this isn’t true!

  26. This part of town is missing an El Pollo Loco or a Popeye’s chicken. Something like that would serve the area better than a 3rd Starbucks. Or am I missing something? Just saying.

  27. I cannot believe how many people are bagging on this new Starbucks… IT’S AWESOME!! A Drive-Thru is a BIG DEAL!!???? I was seriously so happy when I found out!! How can you be mad… It’s an all new- remodeled building with a conference/ community room that can fit about 15 people and it has a good size parking lot! Also being the third one in the area, I wouldn’t be surprised if the other Starbucks by In n Out& Panda changed into something else; it really does have terrible parking and is kind of a hassle to get to.
Anyways stop hating people, It really is great!!:)

  28. Bring in a Krispy Kreme…..
