Ed. Note: The following is a KHTS Feature story based on a recent radio interview with Aquakor.
Krikor Akoubian of Aquakor recently sat down with KHTS AM-1220’s Kyle Jellings to discuss the different types of hardwood and laminate flooring and the installation process.

The two main types of hardwood floors are solid and engineered hardwood. With solid hardwood, the top layer all the way to the bottom is solid wood, but engineered hardwood has a plywood bottom, according to Akoubian.
“The most popular one would be the engineered because it’s more stable,” he said.
While hardwood floors are more sensitive, laminate flooring won’t dent easily, and looks very similar to engineered hardwood floor.

“On the hardwood floor you can buff it or you can refinish it,” Akoubian explained. “On the laminate there is no way to do that, because it’s a picture on top of the material.”
As far as installation, the Aquakor team can remove the existing flooring, make any necessary repairs and lay down the flooring.
Hardwood must be glued or nailed down, but laminate simply clicks together.
“It’s like a puzzle,” Akoubian said. “The only thing that holds the laminate is just the perimeter of the house, the base molding, because everything is floating.”
