While Home Care Services officials offer professional caregiving services, a family caregiver resource center offering assistance to those caring for their loved ones is set to open in mid-December, according to Home Care Service’s founder and president Rick Ferrante.Home Care Services Santa Clarita Forming Family Caregiver Support Groups

“Four out of 10 people in our community, in the population, are taking care of somebody at home,” Ferrante said. “We call those people that are independent, not professional, family caregivers… Caregivers who are doing the same thing– having the same challenges, same issues, same solutions– can get together in a normal support group environment hosted by our center and support each other.”

In addition to hosting support groups, the resource center will also offer products, services, information, seminars, workshops and presentations designed to help anyone caring for a senior loved one in their home.

For those seeking additional help, Home Care Services Santa Clarita offers a variety of professional caregiving services as well.

“We provide in-home caregivers to seniors and others who might some assistance with their activities of daily living,” Ferrante continued. “These people are independent to the point where they don’t need a nursing home, they don’t need to go into assisted living– they want to be able to age in place.”

Professional caregivers can help individuals with non-medical care, such as getting around the house, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation and more. While caregivers can monitor and help people with their medications, they do not administer it, according to Ferrante.

“We look at those people out in the community that are caregivers, and we spend a lot of time screening, evaluating, training, doing orientations and managing those caregivers,” he said. “We’ll do assessments and match those caregivers with a senior, or it could be somebody that just has an illness or injury.”

A new service called Ride Assist is also available when seniors need a little more help than being transported from one location to another.

“Give us 48 hours (notice) and anywhere in the Santa Clarita Valley, we’ll go to the house, pick up the senior or whoever it is using their car,” Ferrante said.

The driver will not only help the person in and out of the car, they can also stay for doctor’s appointments, take the client to get prescriptions filled afterward, pick up items at the store, etc. before bringing the person back home.

“We’re making sure we’re not just talking about somebody off the street,” Ferrante added. “This is a managed process of people that are professionals that will be taking care of your mom, your grandmother– whoever it is.”
