The next phase for the Old Town Newhall Redevelopment Block project is set to begin when Laemmle Newhall breaks ground on Wednesday, Oct. 17, according to City of Santa Clarita officials.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Newhall Crossings construction lot, located at the corner of Main Street and Lyons Avenue.
Santa Clarita City Council members are expected to be joined by representatives from Laemmle Theatres and Serrano Development Group to speak about the positive cultural impact the theatre is expected to have on local residents, according to event organizers.
The project, located on Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 9th Street, is also home to the newly-opened, city-owned parking structure and a future mixed-use apartment complex.
The Laemmle Newhall theatre is set to include seven screens with approximately 500 total seats for moviegoers.
The chain of theatres is known for showcasing independent, foreign and art house cinema. The Newhall location is scheduled to open by the end of 2019.
