Longtime interior designer and former showroom manager Jen Brown is now the new owner of the full-service Santa Clarita design center, Surfaces USA.

As the only granite and marble slab yard in the Santa Clarita Valley, Surfaces USA specializes in kitchen and bath remodels from floors to countertops and more.

“Everything is local– we have our on-site fabricators so we can do the sales, we can do the installation, we can see your project from start to finish,” Brown said. “If you don’t need a kitchen redone, we do bathrooms, we do floors… Anyplace I can put tile or stone, we will do it.”

Brown designed many of Santa Clarita’s model homes from the early to mid 2000s and currently focuses on private residential design.

She acted as Surfaces USA’s showroom manager for the last two years before announcing her new ownership of the Castaic location in January.

“I was the day-to-day operations, running all the job crews, sales and mainly interior design,” she said. “The opportunity presented itself and we made (Surfaces USA) officially family owned and operated.”

A recent trend popular in Santa Clarita homes is the use of honed or leathered granite to create a one-of-a-kind look that can’t be found anywhere else.

“You get the texture of the grain and the movement so it’s more of a piece of artwork, not something that you see in all the model homes or not something that you see in everybody else’s house,” Brown said.

Homeowners looking to replace their kitchen countertops can simply stop by the Castaic showroom to meet with an interior designer and select their stone from the slab yard.

“I usually tell people to bring me in a cabinet door, something that shows me existing colors or an inspiration photo so at least I can get an idea of what it is that you’re drawn to,” Brown said.

A Surfaces USA team member is then sent to the home to make a template of the kitchen, and about two weeks later they return to demo and install in one day.

“All of it’s done in one day,” Brown said. “Unless we do a tile backsplash, then I need a second day for my tile crew to come in. In one to two days you can have new countertops and a backsplash.”
