LunaOlivo officials have begun pairing their California-grown products with similar wines that residents are probably already familiar with, according to Steve Barry, LunaOlivo’s owner.LunaOlivo Creates Artisan Olive Oils, Balsamic Using Unique California Flavors

“Very few people are even aware that there’s these unbelievable world-class olive oils being grown right here in California,” Barry said. “Just like the wines of California, our olive oils have a very distinctive California style and flavor to them.”

“If you go to Europe or Australia and you try some of the wines there, they’re very different than California wines. They have a different profile– a different style –and so do our olive oils.”

California olive oils account for only two percent of the olive oil that is consumed in the United States, according to Barry, making it vital for companies like LunaOlivo to raise awareness of their presence.

“The holidays are coming up, and what we’re doing is a crowdfunding campaign,” he said. “It’s a two-fold thing. It’s to raise more awareness of what we’re doing and to actually help us build our business and get more olive oils so that we can let more people know about what we’re doing here.”

The holiday campaign launched on the Indiegogo website on Nov. 5 and is set to run until about two weeks before Christmas.

Some features of the campaign are exclusive holiday gifts that can be shipped anywhere in the country in a gift-wrapped box, Barry said.

LunaOlivo officials are also offering “taste flight” kits for the holiday season, which include seven mini bottles in a variety of flavors with spoons, tasting cards and a video.

LunaOlivo products are available both online and at their store inside the Santa Barbara Winery.

“We actually call this serious fun,” Barry said. “We have a lot of fun with our olive oils and sharing our olive oils, but we’re very serious about really bringing the best out of the trees and taking people on a culinary adventure.”
