What is Oakmont of Santa Clarita?

Owned and managed by Oakmont Senior Living, Oakmont of Santa Clarita is an independent and assisted living community comprised of 80 pet-friendly units situated on seven acres of land on Newhall Ranch Road.Oakmont of Santa Clarita - Assisted Living & Memory Care

“It’s an alternative living choice for seniors,” said Executive Director Margie Veis. “It could be someone that no longer wants to manage a home, who doesn’t want to cook, who doesn’t want to clean, who wants to move in and kind of have the cruise ship experience for the rest of their life… It’s also bringing that peace of mind, so while you’ll have your own apartment home and your own furniture and it’ll feel like home, you also have that safety net of knowing that there’s staff available 24 hours a day.”

In addition to those who can live independently, seniors who do require assisted living can receive regular help with daily tasks, medication and disease management, escorts around the community and to appointments and more.

One unique element available to all Oakmont residents is the fine dining experience, with all meals cooked by an executive chef and available at a restaurant-style dining room.

“Food is a huge, huge part of people’s lives,” Veis said. “Our dining room is beautiful. Our kitchen has a wood-burning pizza oven so that we can do a pizza of the day; there’s a rotisserie chicken rack so maybe we’ll have rotisserie chicken one night; we’ll have salads; we’ll have seafood of the day. It’s just unbelievable how important food is and how important that is for Oakmont to bring it to our residents.”

All menu options will also indicate if they’re “heart healthy” or “diabetic friendly” for residents with special dietary needs, Veis added.

Residents will also have access to a variety of luxury on-site amenities, including a salon & day spa, movie theater, fitness center, activity rooms, library, bistro, gardens and walking paths, pet park and wellness center.

Those with diabetes can get help managing the disease through a special diabetes care program, which emphasizes a healthy lifestyle through nursing care, food and diet, exercise and support groups.

A specific area of the community has also been designated for seniors with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, and through a program called “Traditions Memory Care,” these seniors will receive specialized assistance to suit their needs.

Living at Oakmont of Santa Clarita

Instead of referring to Oakmont of Santa Clarita as a senior living “facility,” Veis said the staff at Oakmont call it a community, because that’s the experience they envision for their residents.

“We don’t use that ‘F’ word,” Veis laughed. “We say community. Oakmont is a community, and that’s what it is. It’s people living together with a wonderful quality of life, with staff around them that has that passion for seniors.”

While model apartments are expected to become available for viewing in September, Veis and her staff are currently hosting introductory luncheons at their on-site sales center.

The community is currently about 50 percent full, so Veis is encouraging anyone interested in becoming an Oakmont resident to secure their spot early.
