The full-service Santa Clarita design center Surfaces USA offers a selection of natural stone, tile, glass and slab products that shoppers won’t find anywhere else in town, according to owner Jen Brown.

“We bring in a lot of proprietary products, so we have a lot of things that you won’t see anywhere else,” Brown said. “We also have a lot of other lines that we’re bringing in that we make sure nobody else is carrying around town.”Santa Clarita Design Center Surfaces USA

After purchasing Surfaces USA in January, Brown has strived to transform the center into a “one-stop shop” for homeowners looking to remodel their kitchens or bathrooms while standing out from local competitors.

“We don’t want to be like every other tile store. They all have their little niches, and our niche is that we’re going to be completely different,” she said. “We’re trying to become that one-stop, full service design center where we can help you with everything.”

From demolition to fabrication to installation and everything in between, the experts at Surfaces USA handle the entire process from start to finish using their own crews.

As the only slab yard in the Santa Clarita Valley, Surfaces USA specializes not only in high quality porcelain, natural stone and ceramic countertops and flooring, but in wall tiles as well.

In addition, the design center is staffed with knowledgeable interior designers who can help bring homeowners’ creative visions to life.

“The possibilities are endless,” Brown said. “A lot of times people are so overwhelmed by the options that they can’t see everything that’s there. So having us walk you through it, having us help pull things off the wall kind of brings it down in… You can see your palette come together right there in front of your own eyes.”

While some Santa Clarita homeowners may be tempted to save money by doing the installation themselves, Brown advises against it for a few reasons.

“What’s going to take you and I weeks, lots of weekends, lots of nights to do, my guys can come in and do it in a matter of days,” she said.

In addition to saving time, energy and frustration, Brown also stressed the importance of proper installation.

“There’s so much that goes into it,” she said. “Besides the basic math of making sure everything’s laid out properly, there’s the right materials, the setting materials, how long do you let it sit, how do you mix it… Even your grout– if you don’t mix it the right way it’s going to end up blotchy, and then it’s a disaster.”

The process isn’t as “glamorous” as it may seem on HGTV shows, Brown added, and if the installation is done incorrectly and needs to be redone, the homeowner may find themselves needing to buy the same materials again, costing them even more money.

“There’s certain things that should be left to the professionals,” she said, “and other do-it-yourself projects that you can take on yourself at home.”
