“We made a huge, huge commitment about four years ago to try to focus on our American-made manufacturers,” said Norb Moniz of A Royal Suite. “It’s important for us to bring jobs back to America.”Santa Clarita Furniture Store A Royal Suite

Following the rise of inexpensive, but usually poor quality, furniture made in foreign countries, many American furniture manufacturers often run by multi-generational families were forced to lay off workers or even close their doors, according to Moniz.

As a result, furniture stores like A Royal Suite have made an effort to identify high-demand categories of furniture and locate American manufacturers to partner with in providing these products to their customers, helping these facilities stay in business.

For categories of products only available overseas, Moniz said A Royal Suite helps create American jobs by requiring the foreign manufacturer to bring the product into the United States and employ a certain number of Americans before they will carry that product.

“A thousand American jobs have to be employed before we will buy their product,” he explained. “We will not buy product directly from China and bring it in directly to our facility. It has to go through some type of standards throughout the United States; otherwise we just will not carry their product.”

And the benefits of carrying American-made products don’t stop there:

Not only can customers more easily customize the style, shape and fabric of their furniture when it’s American-made, they also have the option to repair damages later on, according to Moniz.

“Once products come in from overseas, after a year it’s no longer available… They make a huge manufacturing run of this product and once it’s gone, it’s gone,” he said. “When a product is made in America, if by some chance there’s some part that’s necessary a year later, we’re able to get it. We’re able to satisfy our customer’s needs.”
