State law requires that most California workers be paid the minimum wage, according to officials.
“Some cities and counties have a local minimum wage that is higher than the state rate,” a news release stated. “Workers paid less than the minimum wage are urged to contact the Labor Commissioner’s Office in their area to file a wage claim.”

Employers must post information on wages, hours and working conditions at a worksite area accessible to employees, the news release continued.

“Governor Brown signed landmark legislation on April 4, 2016 making California the first state in the nation to commit to raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour statewide by 2022 for large businesses, and by 2023 for small businesses,” the news release went on to say. “The legislation increases the minimum wage over time, consistent with economic expansion, while providing safety
valves to pause wage hikes if negative economic or budgetary conditions emerge.”

On each Jan. 1 until 2023, the minimum wage will increase by $1 until the minimum wage reaches $15 an hour.

The following is the schedule for the wage increases:

January 1, 2019, $11.00 an hour for companies with 25 employees or less, and $12.00 an hour for companies with 26 employees or more.

January 1, 2020, $12.00 an hour for companies with 25 employees or less, and $13.00 an hour for companies with 26 employees or more.

January 1, 2021, $13.00 an hour for companies with 25 employees or less, and $14.00 an hour for companies with 26 employees or more.

January 1, 2022, $14.00 an hour for companies with 25 employees or less, and $15.00 an hour for companies with 26 employees or more.

January 1 2023, $15.00 an hour for all companies.

  1. I think the $12/$10.50 is effective 7/1/18

    • The $12.00 for unincorporated LA County went into effect on 07/01/2017. It goes to $13.25 on 07/01/2018. The smaller employers are lagging behind this by one year I believe.

  2. This should be written as “for businesses with 25 or fewer employees” rather than “for businesses with 25 or less employees”.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
