Toys “R” Us is set to liquidate its inventory in all U.S. stores, and is expected to be closing down in the near future, according to papers filed in federal court.

This announcement comes shortly after the retail store announced in January that only 182 stores would be closing down by the end of April.

Toys “R” Us filed paperwork in January to close 20 percent of the company’s stores before the end of April.

The retail chain intends to combine many of its remaining stores with Babies “R” Us locations. The closures still need approval from a federal court.

After 70 years of selling games, bicycles, building blocks, dolls, Barbies and lots more to children, the retail store is no longer able to keep up with the online competition from Amazon and other online stores.

The toy store chain said it plans to honor gift cards for the next 30 days, including Babies “R” Us gifts cards. It was unclear if Babies “R” Us gift cards could be used for online shopping after that point.

Once all locations are closed, it is estimated to affect 33,000 jobs.
