The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are expected Tuesday to approve the addition of $500,000 to an already approved $2.5 million, according to the agenda.
The project is a partnership with the city of Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County and Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, said Lori Glasgow, budget deputy for the county supervisors.
“The county is going to match $3 million if the nonprofit raises $3 million,” she added. “Whenever they raise their $3 million, they can get the money.”
Officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging, who run the senior center, will have until December 2016 to raise the $3 million, Glasgow said.
“The idea is to help the senior center and their infrastructure to help serve seniors in the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Tony Bell, spokesman for Supervisor Michael Antonovich.
The project will built a new senior center at a site near Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road in Saugus. Officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center have not launched the capital campaign for the project.
The plans include a 32,000 square foot building on about 2.5 acres, according to Bell, in a previous story.
“We are still testing the site to make sure that is going to be the actual site,” said Rachelle Dardeau, executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. “Once we confirm that it will hold the senior center that we want to build, we will start the capital campaign then.”
Officials are also looking at how much it will cost to built and run the senior center, she said.
“We still will go to a capital campaign because we want to be able to build something to sustain us for years to come,” Dardeau said, in a previous interview. “With the growth and the growing demographics of the senior population in our valley, it should be a very active building.”
