Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, will be honoring local restaurant, Le Chêne French Cuisine, Friday night as “Small Business of the Month” for May 2016, according to a press release from Wilk’s office.

“Our ‘Small Business of the Month’ is supposed to recognize businesses who hire locally, who give back to local non-profits and promote growth and investment in our community, and Le Chêne fits the bill,” said Wyatt Woodson, press secretary for Wilk’s office.

Members from the community are invited to attend the restaurant’s special recognition, which will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Local businessman Juan Alonso has owned and operated Le Chêne French Cuisine since 1980.

Le Chêne French Cuisine has been serving fine food and wine for over 30 years and is located on Sierra Highway, near Agua Dulce, according to the press release.

“Le Chêne,” meaning “The Oak,” is fitting considering the long-standing oak trees around the restaurant, as well as the rich history of the area, the release continued.

The restaurant, and the iconic, castle-esque building that it sits inside, have played host to many celebrities during its 36 years of operation, and was a filming location for Steven Spielberg’s 1971 movie “Duel.”
