Consumers are urged to reduce their energy use during the late afternoon when air conditioners drive consumption to the highest point of the day, according to ISO officials.
“Yesterday and today, we needed people to help us ease up from using electricity so we could get through the hot afternoon,” said Steven Greenlee, a spokesperson for the ISO on Wednesday.
Yesterday, high temperatures were widespread across California, and the critical time for energy conservation was between 2-9 p.m., according to ISO officials.
Wednesday, peak energy demand was forecasted to continue to stress the grid, according to ISO officials. Thursday temperatures will continue to be hot, and conservation is important.
“We appreciate what people can do to help us,” Greenlee said. “Like raising temperatures of their air conditioners to 78 or 80.”
The conservation efforts of the public will ensure that there will continue to be enough electricity.
“We have found that for the rest of the summer, supplies should be plentiful” Greenlee said.
