The County of Los Angeles’ William S. Hart Park in Newhall will host a pair of art events in late January and early February as part of the park’s third annual Black History Month celebration, and invites local artists to participate. Both events are free and open to the public.

“DreamWorkz 2,” slated for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, is a three-dimensional and visual arts exhibition providing artists a rare opportunity to display works in all media — photography, print, found objects, painting and drawing, sculpture, handmade crafts, wearable art and more.

Al Ewing, Hart Park’s recreation services manager, invites artists to contribute works they might not have been able to display elsewhere due to size or media or other restrictions. The exhibit’s simple “drop-in format” allows artists to show up to seven pieces in any media, framed or unframed, with no size restriction and no fees.

The only restriction is that the art must be suitable for public display and not deemed obscene or offensive by the show’s coordinators.

Art drop-off times for “DreamWorkz 2” are Thursday and Friday, Jan. 19 and 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
There will also be an artists’ potluck lunch on Saturday, Jan. 21 at noon.

The second event, “We Are Americans,” celebrates Black History Month as well as history and art in diverse cultures, and is set for public viewing Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

This celebration is anchored by the complete collection of Genesis Legacy Projects, which are historical displays depicting African American, Latin and Native American art and their experiences in America.

“We Are Americans” also provides an opportunity for local artists to display art in all media that’s based on ethnic people in America — their cultures, images and historical themes.

As with the “DreamWorkz 2” exhibit, “We Are Americans” is a drop-in format allowing artists to show up to seven pieces in any media, framed or unframed, with no size restriction and no fees. The only restriction, again, is that the piece(s) must be suitable for public display and not deemed obscene or offensive.
