The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to close several lanes on Interstate 5 near Santa Clarita this week as part of a $72 million project to add a new truck lane on the southbound I-5 between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14). The closures will span Monday, January 14 to Friday, January 18 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will affect up to three lanes on both the northbound and southbound I-5 between Lyons Avenue and the end of the existing truck lane.

Caltrans says that at least one lane each way will be open at all times, with the most lanes closed between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Ramp closures will be staggered and detours will be noted by signs.
For the safety of the construction crews, Caltrans advises motorists to be attentive to closures, slow down for the cone zone, and move over one lane when passing an active construction area.
