Caltrans Warns Holiday Drivers: Get Early Start

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) advises motorists planning to travel on the northbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) in Castaic, located between the City of Santa Clarita (Valencia) and “The Grapevine,” to plan ahead and leave early to avoid holiday-related traffic delays.  Heavy traffic is expected beginning Wednesday, December 20th through New Years Day.

An ongoing lane closure on northbound I-5 at Templin Highway will continue throughout this time for slope stabilization repairs. Three northbound lanes and all four southbound lanes will remain open.

Motorists are encouraged to tune into local radio stations for freeway traffic reports before starting out on trips.   For road conditions (excluding unforeseen incidents) call the Caltrans Highway Information Number at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).  By speaking the number of the route desired, or using a touch-tone telephone and entering the highway or route number, callers can receive up-to-date road conditions on any California highway.

Caltrans thanks the motoring public for their patience during these roadway repairs.  Traffic fines are doubled in freeway work zones.

Please remember to buckle up and to “SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE.”
