Canyon Country Man Leads Wild Pursuit Into Castaic

khts_crime_chpA Canyon Country man had a wild ride before ending up in jail Tuesday night.

Travis Grant Smith, 28, left downtown Los Angeles in a stolen vehicle with the Los Angeles Police Department in hot pursuit. As he led officers up the I-5 heading north, the California Highway Patrol joined the chase, with a CHP supervisor joining the group at the I-5 junction with Highway 126.

Smith exited the freeway at Parker Road and reentered the freeway traveling southbound, all the while making furtive movements, including reaching under his seat and into the glove box of the car, causing the CHP to request additional units and air support.

As Smith approached Calgrove Boulevard, the CHP deployed spike strips on all four tires of the car, flattening the tires, but Smith continued approximately five more miles to the southbound 405 near Devonshire.

Several “pit” maneuvers were used to attempt to stop Smith, which were successful and he was arrested without further incident. He was transferred to the custody of LAPD, which is holding him without bail on a parole hold. Smith faces charges for stealing the vehicle and evading a peace officer, both felonies.
