Canyon Country Shooting Has Sheriff’s Station Seeking Man For Questioning

Detectives are looking for a person of interest in a deadly shooting at the 19000 block of Newhouse Street in Canyon Country on Thursday night.

Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are seeking public assistance in locating Juan Alexander Mejia Dubon, pictured, with a Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives have learned that the suspect, 31-year-old Dubon, arrived home intoxicated and began to argue with his parents. He produced a gun and shot his father in the head, according to a Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives.

“(Dubon) is a person of interest,” Harris said, describing him as a Hispanic man, 5 feet, 2 inches tall, approximately 117 pounds. 

Dubon was the son of the shooting victim, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The incident occurred Thursday at approximately 11:47 p.m. in Canyon Country. There is the potential that the incident could get upgraded to a murder charge.

“Homicide is en route and they’re going to handle this case,” said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The victim’s hospitalized in very serious condition,” Harris said. “At this point, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are working in direct cooperation with our Homicide Bureau because of the victim’s condition, which is believed to be very serious. There’s the potential that the victim might not survive the shooting incident.”

The weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered by Sheriff’s Station deputies.

 Dubon may be armed, Harris said.

Anyone who may come into contact with him is asked to not approach or attempt to apprehend him. Detectives are asked to contact authorities immediately.
