Step Into the Enchanted World of “Beauty and the Beast”

Image The newly formed Santa Clarita Regional Theatre is presenting Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. This lavish production of the “tale as old as time” brings to life the touching story of how Belle (Hallie Sager) tames the unfortunate Beast (George M. Chavez II) and helps him to transform into a handsome prince, will enthrall audiences here as is has been doing on Broadway.  This production features spectacular musical numbers, luxurious sets and magnificent voices accompanied by a live orchestra.  Beauty and the Beast will be the entertainment event of the summer and will delight and enchant audiences of all ages.

ImageThe Broadway musical, directed by TimBen Boydston and Patti Finley, animates the fairy tale of a vain young prince who is turned into a hideous beast by an enchantress when he cruelly rejects her gift of a beautiful red rose. His curse cannot be broken until he learns to purely love another, and to have that love returned. The spell extends to all the Prince's servants, who slowly transform into the objects their characters most resemble: feather dusters, candlesticks, dishes, clocks and teapots.

You will be transported to a lovely French provincial town where the lovely Belle, a scientist's daughter, finds her way to the Beast's castle and slowly develops affection for him. The most beautiful girl in the town, she is wooed by the egotistical Gaston (Billy Davis), who attacks the Beast to win her hand.  Eleazar Del Rosario is Gaston’s comical sidekick, Lefou.  Lumiere (the Candlestick) is played by Kelly Roberts, Tamarah Ashton-Coombs is Mrs. Potts (the motherly Teapot), Ed Hill is Cogsworth (the tightly-wound Clock), Joy Norton is Babette (the coquettish feather duster) and Sean Kelly is Chip (a teacup). Mari Miranda is the opera-singing Wardrobe and Jymn Magon is Belle’s dotty father, Maurice. The pit orchestra will be conducted by Patti Graham, with vocal direction by Tamarah Ashton-Coombs. The choreography is being created by Musette Caing and Jan Marie Rennels, and  Paula Soltero is designing the costumes.  Eleazar Del Rosario is designing the Beast’s makeup. More than 60 Singers and dancers complete the cast.
