Chase ends in Burbank, suspects arrested in connection with
multiple Santa Clarita vehicle thefts.
[view:node_ad=5]Just before midnight Friday, two people were robbed at
gunpoint while sitting in their Chevy HHR approximately one mile east of Low Ridge Drive in Saugus.
A white Toyota
truck had pulled up next to them, and one suspect, later identified as William
Caceras, exited the truck. He reportedly pointed a handgun at the driver of the
HHR and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle.
Santa Clarita Sheriff’s officials say that the people were subsequently
robbed of their personal property before Caceras stole the HHR. Another suspect
followed in the white truck.
After running down the hill to get cell phone service, the two
victims notified deputies, who quickly contacted On Star, which is a navigation
and tracking device installed in the HHR. The system tracked the stolen vehicle
to a Newhall street where deputies responded.
Upon arriving on the scene, a local deputy identified the HHR,
which had been stripped of its license plates. He also noticed that the white
truck matching the suspect’s was driving away.
After attempting to stop the truck, the suspects made a run
for it sending deputies on a pursuit through city streets and the I-5 freeway.
In Burbank, the
pursuit ended, as Caceras ran from the vehicle. Another suspect, Evagelina
Gomez was taken into custody after she stayed in the truck.
Caceras was taken into custody after a foot pursuit with the
help of air units. A hand gun was discovered in the path of the chase.
Furthermore, Sheriff’s officials say that they recovered the
stolen HHR license plates in the truck, along with the victims’ personal
property and another set of license plates believed to belong to a PT Cruiser.
It was also determined that the getaway truck was reported stolen from Santa
Clarita on October 9th.
Both suspects are being held in Sheriff’s custody, and an
investigation has been launched to determine if they were involved in any other
crimes.
