Career Internship Class Applications Available For Spring Semester

Providing high school students with an opportunity to explore potential career paths, the Hart district’s Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Career Internship class is now taking applications for the Spring semester class.

“The ROP internship  class being sponsored by the Hart school district is a great opportunity for juniors and seniors, if they have a career they are considering, to learn more and to gain hands-on experience in that field,” said Gail Pinsker, Hart district spokeswoman.

The program operates out of the district as a partnership with local businesses that open their doors to give students valuable training experience, she added.

Students in the program will perform an unpaid internship while earning up to five credits for the semester.

The purpose of the class is for students to learn about a career field and prepare for future employment. Students spend the first two weeks of class being trained in workplace skills. After this, they spend 14 weeks working at their internship site for four to eight hours a week while attending class one hour a week.

The internship class is designed for students who have a strong interest in a career field and ideally have taken an elective or ROP class already in the related area. Internships may be available in a variety of industries including: Audiology, Automotive, Business, Chemistry, Chiropractic, Computer Programming, Culinary, Event Planning, Golf Facility Management, Graphic Design, Insurance, Interior Design, Legal, Marketing, Engineering, Medical office, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Plumbing, Teaching, and TV Production. Students are not limited to this list and can suggest another industry and get approval from the District.

Students must be 16 or older to take the class. They must not have grades lower than a “C” on their most recent report card and have good citizenship. The class takes places outside of school hours, and students need to provide their own transportation.

The course runs from Jan. 16 – May 6. Applications are due before winter break.

For more information or to register for the course, students should contact the ROP Specialist at their high school. To see a list of ROP Specialists, visit:
