The COC Career Center is hosting the event at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located on the college’s Valencia campus.
The topics of discussion and activities at the career camp will be guided by the needs and interests of the attendees, and the event has been described as a hybrid “conference/un-conference.”
The philosophy of the camp is to “create your own experience,” said Career Services Director Anthony Michaelides.
No predetermined topics or classes have been planned. When registering for the event, participants can indicate whether or not they are interested in speaking on their area of expertise.
“Speakers come out of the woodwork,” Michaelides said, creating a collaborative, informal environment.
Previous topics included careers as varied as human resources and herbal medicine.
If you attend the conference and are not getting the information you need, suggest a topic and form a group to discuss it, Michaelides said.
“Attendees can come to listen and learn, or they may choose to get more involved and lead a discussion in their own area of expertise,” he said. “The ultimate goal is for everyone to leave with new contacts, useful information and encouraging leads that will help them move to the next step in their careers.”
Admission and parking are free, but those planning to attend this event must register in advance, as space is limited.
