Castaic Continues Trucking Away Mud

Victories are being measured in feet and inches in Castaic, as county workers and business owners Saturday continued to clean out storm drains and pump mud out of soggy yards. . .

The Old Road remains closed between Hillcrest Parkway and Parker Road. Among businesses affected are Castaic Boat and Marine, and The Plant Warehouse, both situated within a half-mile of one another on The Old Road.
Working on the problem were the Flood Maintenance Division and Road Department, two different departments of Los Angeles County Public Works. Their counterpart, Caltrans, on the other side of the freeway, was working at clearing storm drains as well.
Benny Miranda, a supervisor with the county’s Flood Maintenance Division, said it would take a few days to clean out the debris in the underground storm drains. He urged the public to stay away until the work is done.
Heavy dump trucks were rolling back and forth along The Old Road, hauling dirt, mud and debris, as other specialized equipment pumped mud out of miniature lagoons formed in pockets and depressions along the street.
